We travelled to California a few weeks ago for a long weekend of sunshine, old friends, new friends, and lots of laughter. Charlie and Jen’s wedding went perfectly, and I am SO excited to finally share the images of their beautiful day.
Being the wedding photographer is always a somewhat strange position–one aspect of it is like people-watching, but it’s people-watching that your job depends on. You have to be aware of certain relationships, figure out who the key people are (besides the bride and groom of course), learn which are their real smiles and figure out if they’re the type who, when overcome with emotion, will sob and grab kleenexes or silently shut their eyes for a moment and close their lips tightly together. This is also just my style of wedding photography: documentary and real. Beautiful and larger than life when posed, and then unflatteringly authentic when candid. I like it that way, because I think that’s how life is.
One unusually wonderful aspect of this weekend was that I got to spend a good 36 hours with various family and wedding party members before the wedding ceremony even started! Everyone was so welcoming, and I was genuinely sad to leave some new friends when Sunday came. I hope you enjoy this brief look into Charlie and Jen’s big day– from Jen getting choked up at the start of her bridal portraits, to the flower girl approaching the aisle and simply turning around and walking back the wrong way (it’s okay girl, we all have those days), to the sun setting perfectly behind Jen’s angelic veil during their first dance. I’m so thankful to have been a part of this occasion, and I’m so excited to capture many more wedding moments this year. (I seriously have the best job.)
Getting married? We’d love to hear from you!
